How many kids that take an AP test actually pass?

A lot of students on our campus take AP (Advance Placement) classes. Usually, the purpose is to take the AP exam at the end of the year and get college credit, but how many actually pass?

According to collegeboard.org, the number of students taking AP courses has risen while the amount of students passing the end of the year exam is dropping. In 2002, 1.2 million students took AP exams. A recent study shows that in 2012, 2.9 million students took at least one AP exam.

However, 61% of the students taking AP courses from the class of 2002 had passed. For the class of 2012 only 57% of students that took the exam passed. Taking AP courses means a lot more of responsibility than a college prep course or even honors course. Keep these statistics in mind when signing up for your classes for the next school year.
