Every year we are asked to donate loose change to Cancer patients. ¨The class that raises the most money will win a pizza party!,¨ they emphasize. However, what should be emphasized is where your money goes and what it does.

According to penniesforpatients.org, the Leukemia and Lymphoma society has been organizing Pennies For Patients since 1992.

Pennies For Patients is a three-week long program in which more than 14 million elementary, middle, and high school students, and 10 million educators throughout the U.S. collect change in order to raise money for Cancer patients. That is more than 24 million people!

How much money is raised in total? In the last 17 years, more than 216 million dollars was raised through Pennies For Patients.

This year, Ontario High School will be donating more than $650 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Good work jags! It doesn’t matter if you donated 20 cents or 20 dollars. It doesn’t matter if your class doesn’t win that pizza party. Everyone who donated helped to save lives. You are all winners.
