File_000Our very own Ontario High School boys water polo team overcame a four year crutch. On October 15, 2015, they were victorious over the Montclair Cavaliers.

This win is their first win in league the past four years. Although they did experience wins in the preseason, it does not count as league play towards the playoffs.

Senior captain Armando Martinez stated, “ I am very proud of my team. They have shown so much improvement. All of our hard work has been for that amazing moment and now we know our capabilities.”

Martinez was one of the top scorers, he contributed 6 out of the 17 goals in order to bring home the win.

Junior captain Hugo Ramos was the additional top scorer, with a total of 6 goals as well. Martinez and Ramos combined made about 70 percent of the goals.

While on the defensive side, freshman goalie Kane Williams had 5 blocks in the goal. “Kane has made a lot of key blocks for us in many crucial moments this season and has a lot of potential being that he is only a freshman. He has more to learn but he is a quick learner he will definitely be a leader for the team in years to come,” stated Martinez.

In addition, the 17-11 victory over Montclair would not have been possible without senior Louie Mendoza who had a total of 5 steals, which set the basis for many goals.

This is a team sport, and without every individual on the team this victory would not have came so smoothly. Martinez stated, “When the final buzzer sounded I felt tears in my eyes and I knew it was not water. We finally accomplished our goal, and this is only a stepping stone.”
