Trip of a lifetime

Of the 660 candidates that participated in a personal online interview with Norbert Kraft, M.D.,Chief Medical Officer, only 100 candidates were specially selected for the trip of their lifetime on a mission to Mars.

MarsOne’s mission states that their goal is to “Establish human settlement on Mars. Mars is the stepping stone of the human race on its voyage into the universe. Human settlement on Mars will aid our understanding of the origins of the solar system, the origins of life and our place in the universe. As with the Apollo Moon landings, a human mission to Mars will inspire generations to believe that all things are possible and anything can be achieved.”

All candidates were interviewed in order for them to have a chance to show their understanding of the risks involved, as well as showing their motivation and team spirit.

“We were impressed with how many strong candidates participated in the interview round, which made it a very difficult selection” said Dr. Norbert Kraft. (

These 100 will be challenged in many ways. They will get to train for their first time in the copy of the Mars Outpost on Earth and must demonstrate their suitability to perform well in a team. “Being one of the best individual candidates does not automatically make you the greatest team player, so I look forward to seeing how the candidate’s progress and work together in the upcoming challenges.” said Dr. Norbert Kraft.
