Junior running back Antoine Paul has earned valuable recognition and has picked up momentum after finding tremendous success through the first five games of the season.optimized-_dsc0169

Paul’s abilities were showcased two weeks ago in the homecoming game victory over Patriot High School.

The 5-foot-8, 160 pound back rushed for 260 yards on only ten carries and scored three touchdowns on the ground. Paul also had three catches for 49 yards, two of those catches were in the end zone as he caught both a touchdown pass and the ensuing two point conversion.

This performance earned him a nomination to be the Southern California Prep Legends Male Athlete of the Week. Paul won a tough race over quarterback Quinn Commans of Whittier Christian High School.

“When I was down by 2,000 votes I was pretty depressed,” said Paul jokingly, “I thought I wasn’t going to win.”

Jaguar voters rallied a comeback and gave Paul 23,186 votes, 4000 more than the runner up.

“I feel good about it, I’m grateful that I won.” said the junior standout in regard to winning.

Halfway through the season, Paul is averaging just over ten yards per carry. He has 740 rushing yards and has scored seven rushing touchdowns as well as one receiving touchdown. On defense, Paul has racked up 21 tackles this season.

He credits much of his success to his offensive line.

“My offensive line helped me pretty much, they set up all the blocks… so I can see the holes and get down the field and score that touchdown” commented the humble running back.

Paul’s next outing is next Friday as Mt. Baldy League play opens up on the road against the rival Montclair Cavaliers.

“I’m super excited. I can’t wait for that… everyone is counting on us to win this game,” said the eager Antoine Paul, “there’s going to be a lot of emotions.”

If the first five games of the season are any indicator of what is to come, expect greater things from number 21.
