RISE, or Raising Individual Student Excellence, is a make-up day that takes place on Saturdays from 7:30 to 11:30, you can attend if you missed a day of school or need help on an educational subject you need help understanding.
There is no doubt that you have heard Mr. Rangel, Assistant Principal of Achievement, speak about RISE on the daily announcements, but there is a reason why attending it is so emphasized.
“RISE is an opportunity to make up an absence for students who have missed school,” states Rangel.
Besides providing benefits to a student’s grade, RISE also allows schools to collect daily attendance funds for every day that is made up. The school’s economic benefits, as well as student improvement, is why attending RISE is often encouraged.
As for the teachers who teach at RISE, they come on a “voluntary basis, so far as their calendar allows…They are compensated for their work.” explains Rangel.
Rangel encourages every student to come to RISE. Attendance should not be limited to just those who have been absent, he says.
