Selena, Making A Change

21 years after Selena Quintanilla’s death, her sister, Suzette, and the makeup company MAC worked together to create a makeup line in honor of the tejano music singer.
The idea was created when Patty Rodriguez, a producer of On Air With Ryan Seacrest, petitioned for a line to be done. Rodriguez, along with many fans, worked hard to achieve this great success.
In July, MAC announced and confirmed that they will be releasing the makeup line including lipsticks, eyeshadows and blushes, lipglosses and brushes in October in honor of the late singer, Selena.
Each makeup collection item is named after one of Selena’s many hits. “Como La Flor” will be the name of the classic red lipstick the tejano artist would wear. Other products by the name of, “ Dreaming of You”, “Amor Prohibido” and “Techno Cumbia” are also included.
Senior, Valeria Barrera, states that, “It’s empowering to know that [a] Latina women is being honored.”
She, as well as many other young girls, feel proud of this accomplishment. Selena was and continues to be a well-loved artist.
The M·A·C Selena World Premiere took place on October 3rd, 2016 in Corpus Christi, Texas. There, fans were able to shop for the new makeup line and enjoy a live, special performance by Prince Royce. The entry was free and the merchandise was quickly sold out.
On the MAC website, the products went out of stock as of Saturday October 4, 2016. However, merchandise became available at Macys.com, Dillards.com, Nordstrom.com, Bloomingdales.com, Belk.com, Saks.com and TheBay.com as of October 5th. In store, the collection was available Thursday, October 6th. MAC hopes to sell their merchandise internationally by next month.
